About Tidy Wilds

A cheerful puzzle game with a real-world thank-you.

The idea

Tidy Wilds is a match-3 puzzle game for phones and tablets. Instead of sweets or jewels, you match rubbish: bottles, cans, jars, wrappers, crisp packets and old cables. Clear it away and the six wild places of the game (a woodland, a city park, a beach, a river, a coral reef and a tropical rainforest) slowly come back to life, and you collect each world’s wildlife as cards.

We wanted the game's good deeds to go beyond the screen, so finishing each world also earns a real tree, paid for by us from the game's income and planted by our planting partner. That promise comes with honest conditions, which we explain on the home page and in the terms.

Who makes it

Tidy Wilds is made by an independent developer in the United Kingdom.

How it's made

The game is built with Flutter. Its art (every rubbish piece, scene, tree, animal and Nutmeg herself) is rendered in-house by the project's own code, its sound effects are synthesised by the project's own audio code, and its music was composed for Tidy Wilds by Steven Shackleton and performed with sampled instruments (orchestral samples from VSCO 2 Community Edition by Versilian Studios, and steel pan samples from jSteelDrum by J. Learman, both in the public domain). The headline lettering is the Anton typeface by Vernon Adams, and the running text is the Barlow typeface by Jeremy Tribby, both used under the SIL Open Font License.

What we care about

  • A fair challenge. Levels are meant to make you think. Nutmeg explains new things when they first appear, then leaves you to it.
  • No pay-to-win walls. Every level is designed to be beaten without paying. Rewarded videos are optional, and ads between levels are kept to a minimum.
  • Honest trees. A real tree you have earned shows as “Earned: waiting to be ordered” until we order and pay for it. Then it shows as ordered, and we say that the partner’s project plants it in its next planting season. We only call it planted once the partner confirms it is in the ground. Test builds say clearly that they plant nothing.
  • Very little data. No accounts, no third-party analytics in the game (only optional, anonymous gameplay counts, off for under-18s), and no analytics or cookies on this site. See the privacy policy.

Where we are now

Tidy Wilds is in development and is not yet available in the App Store or on Google Play. No real trees have been ordered or planted yet. We will update this site when the game launches.
